Audiovisual Technologies

Audio
One audio technology that is traditional could be the audiocassette player. If you were teaching a reading class this piece of technology would be helpful to use if you wanted to have the chapter read to the students. The students would listen to the material being read out loud as they followed along. This could help those students who have a hard time reading to themselves and it would help a teacher because they would not have to read as much and could focus on if the students are paying attention. Using a audiocassette player would keep everybody in the class on the same page. Students who may take a longer time to read on their own would get that help by learning information faster because someone else is reading it to them.

One emerging thing for audio technology would be the internet audio. Teachers do not have to listen to useless information anymore, because if they use internet audio they can chose what parts they want to listen to instead of listening to the whole thing. Smaller audio clips are better to use because you will keep the attention of the classroom for a longer period of time. Students get bored if they just have to sit there and listen to a tape recording all class period. I believe internet audio would be helpful to use if you wanted to show how to complete a science experience. You could play the directions and stop them at anytime so every student could stay with the group. If someone was not listening you would have the opportunity to click on that clip again rather than having to rewind a tape and hope to be lucky you find it again. Internet audio is a very helpful tool that more teachers should use.

Visual
One traditional form of visual technology would be a bulletin board. I personally love bulletin boards because they do a good job at catching a person's attention. When I have my future classroom I want to make my bulletin boards very creative. I plan to teach special education, and a bulletin board could help me with keeping the students on a routine. Each day as a class we could decided on what day it is and we would point to it and by doing that, they would find out what we were doing for that day. The bulletin board would be there all day so if someone wanted to go back to it on their own they could. Even people that walked in our classroom would know what my students were doing each day by just looking at the bulletin board. I believe it could keep a classroom very organized by letting everyone know what is going on.

A document camera could be used as an emerging technology tool for visual things. This device displays anything you put in front of it. I would tell any history teacher to use this. It would come in handy if a teacher wanted to display artifacts from years ago. I bet as a teacher they would not want their items being destroyed, so they could place them in front of the document camera and it would display on a screen for the whole class to see. It makes the image big enough and then teachers will not experience their materials being ruined by having the students pass it around the class. A document camera is very impressive and not hard to use. They are good for on the spot teaching!

Digital Technologies in the Classroom

I would prefer to teach in a classroom that has more digital technologies! The world has increased it's technology level and that is why I would love to have different technologies in my classroom. It would not only help me as the teacher, but it would also help my future students. Digital technology can be used several ways. There are digital cameras, electronic whiteboards, scanners, and much more. Using them could make instruction interesting for the students, which would enhance their learning. There are so many positive things you can get out of using digital technologies that it would hurt you as a teacher if you did not use them. Plus, they make use different ways of teaching and therefore it has potential to help every student in your classroom learn the material. Digital technologies are the things to use!
